1. Preparation

Be patient as the university can take their time to send all the documents. Download and set up all the apps in advance. Also see if you need to stockpile some products (hygiene, meds or so) as some things are hard to get there

2. Accommodation

I stayed in the dorms of the university. Most exchange students did and it created a cool community. The dorms are not great as mooost people share a room (buildings 20, 21 and 22 are the more modern) but its very cheap.

3. Academic life at host university

The campus is huge and you have everything you need there. The classes were okay; not too demanding, but felt a bit repetitive.

5. Every day life in the host country

My advice would be to travel as much as possible. The one-entry visa is indeed not great but its possible to get an extra entry and otherwise there really is a lot to see in China so one semester really isnt enough. The university has a lot of sports clubs and many of them are also "english friendly-ish". I joined the dragon boat team and it was great fun. Clubbing in China is different than Austria and my personal recommendation in Beijing is Heaven Supermarket (the one in Sanlitun is better than Wudaokou)

6. Testimonial

I had the time of my life in China. Met a lot of great people and traveled to 28 provinces. I would recommend you to not be scared of trying some of the funky-looking foods, visiting more random places and trying to meet as many people as possible. Language is indeed a big barrier but try meeting some locals as it is indeed the best way of understanding their society and culture.
