1. Preparation

In Preparation for the exchange I would definitely connect with other students going to the same city, since that helped me a lot. One thing you can already apply for before coming to Italy is your "codice fiscale", which is a tax code you need for many things there. I think travelling to Milan is quite easy by train or even by car, so there is no ned to fly, but if you fly try to book to Linate.

2. Accommodation

I rented an apartment with two other WU students via HousingAnywhere. I would say that it is definitely an expensive choice, but you have more security, that the apartment actually exists and we all got our deposit back by now. If you are just looking for one room then try to find some whats app groups for Bocconi/ Politecnico students, because they very often insert rooms. I stayed in Navigli/ Ticinese, which is perfect for proximity to Bocconi or the Politecnico Leonardo campus, but further from where my campus was at Bovisa. Still I really liked it there and felt quite safe.

3. Academic life at host university

I really liked the Politecnico university and I felt like there were many nice people in my courses who were open to connect. I found many of the courses quite demanding timewise, since we need to do so many credits and our grades count, which is different for man international students from other universities. I would recommend the courses "Strategic Innovation", "Management for Sustainability and Impact". There were many interesting guest lectures and competent professors. Be prepared for many group projects!

5. Every day life in the host country

Public transport is 22€ per month for students and works alright, but of course we are in Italy so there might be a few delays and they love to strike from time to time. I felt quite safe in the city in general but I would be careful walking around at night alone, just to be safe. There were many sport options on campus so definitely sign up for those! Also the Erasmus community organizes many events in the beginning and throughout the semester and its very fun to get to know people.

6. Testimonial

I would definitely go to Italy again for my exchange because it's just a beautiful country to stay at. Milan is a city that has everything you need and has very pretty corners but even if it gets overwhelming you can easily drive to the lakes around or even to genova to be at the sea. Be prepared to do a lot for Uni but also enjoy the time there as much as possible!
