You have to get yourself a travel card, which you can get online, to travel basically everywhere for 10 euros a month. You may have to make an appointment and go to an office, which you can find for example in the station "Sol". To get to the university, you have to take the Cercanias Train.
I booked my appartement via spotahome, which was pretty comfortable as you could easily book it online like an airbnb, but it is relatively pricey. Student dorms are very pricey aswell. If you want to be near the university, i would suggest you to find an appartement near the chamartin central station. If you want to be in the nice quarters inside the city, i can recommend sol oder lavapies.
I really can recommend every course from JP Charron, as he is really nice as a teacher. I wouldnt recommend the courses "International Economics" and "International Macroeconomics" as they were quite hard. The teaching style is very much like in school and comparable to the style at WU.
for the entire exchange
There are many sport options at the university like football or padel. Also padel tennis is very popular in spain and there are many courts all around the city, which you can book on the app "playtomic", where you also can find players on your level to play with. Public transport is very cheap (10 euros a month) and the metro system in madrid is amazing. Madrid is a very safe city and i never really felt unsafe, whereever i was in madrid.
The people in madrid are very open to connect and to meet new people, especially in the central city there are many erasmus students and it is really easy to get to know new people. Also the lifestyle is really chill and you can have a lot of fun going outside, to partys and so on.
