1. Preparation

-Turkey and Austria have a bilateral insurance agreement: "Abkommen zwischen der Republik Österreich und der Republik Türkei über soziale Sicherheit" - "A/TR 3". This document needs to be prepared in order to get the Residence Permit later. Travel Choice: Plane

2. Accommodation

Accommodation search: Some friends did an Erasmus semester in Istanbul before. We contacted their landlord and were able to get the same apartment for the same price. Accommodation type: Apartment Location: Şişli, Bomonti (close to Nişantaşı) Safety: Very Safe Proximity: around 40 minutes by metro (2 lines) Tips: avoid buses and all other transport that can get stuck in traffic

3. Academic life at host university

Facilities: Cafe, Cafeteria, Basketball-court, Tennis-court, gym, First-aid station, merch-shop, etc. Academic culture: The smartest and most ambitious students of Turkey Teaching style: Depending on course but a lot of Papers and presentations, other than that mostly teacher centered lectures course reccomendations: don't do "Money, Banking and Financial Institutions"

5. Every day life in the host country

Public transport: Try to use Metro if possible. Traffic can get extremely busy. Safety situation: Very safe, be smart though Social/leisure activities: Very nice bars and clubs; favorite area definitely Kadıköy; Museums also very nice (Get a Müze-Kart with your Student-ID) Events/Sports options: Everything possible; just research

Wonderful place to do your exchange. Welcoming and warm people. Beautiful city to explore and enjoy. Interesting lectures. A little bit more expensive than I anticipated.
