Research partner universities to find the best academic and cultural fit. Write a strong motivation letter that explains why you chose the university and how it supports your goals. Before leaving, plan your courses and make sure they can be recognized at WU. Once accepted, organize your visa, accommodation, and insurance early to avoid stress and enjoy your semester abroad fully.

I lived in a shared apartment with my own private room, which was a good balance between privacy and social life. However, my accommodation was a bit too far from the city center, which made commuting to the university and meeting friends less convenient. If I could do it again, I’d definitely look for a place closer to the center. My main tip is to start the search early and prioritize location over price. Being close to campus and the city makes a big difference in your daily life abroad.

The campus was spread out across several buildings, which gave it a smaller and more personal feel compared to WU. Classes were held in small groups of around 20–30 students. It was more interactive and reminded me a bit of school. Unlike WU, there were no large lecture halls, and professors often knew students by name. This setup made it easier to participate in discussions and build connections with classmates and lecturers.

Public transport in Singapore is very convenient, with buses and the subway making it easy to get anywhere quickly. I always felt completely safe, even at night, as Singapore is generally a very secure place to live. I joined Muay Thai classes at SMU, which I can highly recommend. The university offers a wide range of sports and activities, so there’s definitely something for everyone to stay active and meet new people.

I honestly had the best year of my life during my exchange. It’s hard to put into words how amazing the experience was, not just because of the university, but because of the people I met, the different cultures I got to experience, and the many new adventures I had. I discovered a new sport, made lifelong friends, and travelled to incredible places. Singapore is a fantastic place for a semester abroad. it’s safe, vibrant, and perfectly located for exploring other Asian countries. It’s definitely not boring if you surround yourself with the right people and make the most of every opportunity.
