Really think about why you are the ideal student for a semester abroad. Think about your previous experiences, cultural background etc. For preparing your semester abroad I would try to get in contact with people who are currently in Rome or who have been. Their experience and knowledge can help a lot!!

Start really early!!! Finding a suitable accomadation is really hard in Rome especially if you don't know anyone who's living there/ don't know Italian. I booked my room on Dovevivo and I can definitely recommend it. It was a bit pricey but definetly worth it for me especially since I didn't want to be scammed. I live in Parioli and it's the most beautiful neighborhood in Rome and definitely one of the safest too. If you are worried about safety I would definitely stay away from the area around the termini. Parioli is a bit in the north but every bus/tram is going to the Uni straight so I didn't have to worry about that too much. There is no metro station which is a big minus but it was worth it for me.

So the main campus is really big but you won't have too much difficulties finding the rooms since the economics apartment is on its own a few streets next to the main campus. I think the courses are very much at a level with WU which was unexpected since I thought it would be much easier. But everything is a bit more laid back and my professors almost always come late and end the classes earlier.

I always went everywhere by bus and therefore got a metro card. I felt very safe almost everywhere I went as already mentioned. I would recommend getting the ERA and ESN Card of your university since they provide so much activities and I always used them!!! I went to almost all Erasmus events in the beginning and got to know a lot of people there. There is a sports program included too in the ERA Card which I frequently used.

It was the best time of my whole life. At the beginning I was afraid of everything, of the new environment and the unknown life ahead, but nothing could have prepared me for the incredible experience I had in Rome. The friendships I made and the memories I created will stay with me forever. I didn’t expect too much from the city, but I completely fell in love with it. Every street, every piazza, and every corner seemed to have its own story, and exploring Rome felt like stepping into a living museum. At first the laid-back lifestyle was difficult for me to adjust to, but over time I learned to embrace it. It helped me become less stressed, less focused on things I cannot control, and gave me a new perspective on life. Walking through the city at night, seeing the monuments lit up, or enjoying a simple coffee in a small piazza made me feel incredibly grateful to be living there. My exchange in Rome was not just about the city itself, but about discovering a new way of living, meeting amazing people, and learning more about myself than I ever expected. I will never forget my time there, and it will always hold a special place in my heart.
