Book your flight in time, get your accomodation in time since they are often arranged in advance. (pricing i payed about 500 EUR). I got my phyiscal Phone Sim at the airport from telcel at an OXXO (very common shop all over mexico)-- no problems -- you pay a little to get the sim and you pay about 200 pesos a month for data (10 EUR) also works in the US (only tested chicago, Austin Texas and New York) Pack some rain gear and warm clothing Mexico City can cool down pretty quick. If there is an earthquake get out of buildings and stay away from windows (I think public buildings only evacute the first 2 floors) Warnings come 30 Seconds before it hits onto your phone.

I went with the pamphlat given out by the university and got my accomodation from there. Solo apartment small, next to university. 9500 pesos (about 500 EUR). I had some issues related to a flooded apartment bc somthing was clogged when i arrived. additionally you generally cannot flush toiletpaper in Mexico. The university is the exception. The early bird gets the worm, AirBnB is like 2 to 3 times as expensive. Make sure the duration fits your stay, If you stay over the Wintersemester you can generally keep in mind that it ends in december but you can already move into the city early since classes end with beginning of december or stay longer in general because you might have 2 months break instead of 1 (I traveled USA after my stay in mex)

It can be hard to connect to locals. The other internationals will easily be your friends. Make use of the Sports program, take a picture of the schedule at the intro event. It includes Salsa, Batminton and more. Teaching is more personal. I (Law Student) took the following courses: Buisiness Law II (great, medium effort) Legal Writing and Argumentation in English II (great, medium effort) Global Legal Skills III (amazing, high effort) International Law I (great, medium-high effort) International Law II (great, medium-high effort) I loved all courses, but can't confidently recommend any as of yet, because my request for accreditation is still in progress. The timeframe between the release of the course list and the definitve locking in for your courses was too short for the application for determination of accreditation (Feststellungantrag). Though you should still do it after the fact. I failed to do so and the delayed accreditation made me lose all my waitlist spots at WU, because they are processed by progress of your degree.

Public transport took a while to figure out. Metro is the first. Its easy there is the Metro and the Metrobus, both work with the card which you can get at the Metrostation Miguelángel (or smth like that) and charge it up (i did 50 pesos the first time but ended up needing more). Alternatively and often used is Uber and DiDi in general check both apps since DiDi ("chinese Uber") can often be 100 pesos cheaper. Then there are some busses that actually connect the city very well and cost like cents to drive. For Example there is one that goes from ITAM (near Itam you need to walk to a busy street nearby) to the Metro station which I found out only the very last day. It costs 8 Pesos. Keep your stuff close to yourself, my partners phone got stolen and she is Mexican. I played Padle tennis, there is a court 15 min walking from uni.

I did a lot of trips in Mexico during the exchange (Baja California, Oaxaca, Yucatan) and found amazing friends from all over the world. (Austrailia, Chech Republic, USA, Germany etc.) Classes can be demanding but are generally tailored for exchange students if you know what I mean. I went to salsa classes and Batminton classes and had a blast there. The School also has a gym where you can work out at.
