1. Preparation

Since Dublin is pretty expensive, I would check different accommodations. I personally chose an accommodation closer to the city as UCD is little bit outside (approx. 40 minutes). You don't need a visa and i went there by plane.

2. Accommodation

Finding accommodation wasn't that easy. There is on campus housing but I chose to stay near city centre, which was really a good choice. My area was stoneybatter and it was approx. 40 minutes away from UCD by bus. I think on campus is fine too but you can book it really short handed. For January the accommodation booking started in November. I think quite all students I met stayed in a student residence and there are quite a lot in Dublin. I personally got my room from another girl from Vienna (Hauptuni) because she was there the semester before but had to book the room for a full year.

3. Academic life at host university

The professors are very cooperative and responsive to students. There was a wide selection of courses, though almost every course involved large group projects where you could either get lucky or unlucky with your classmates. The teaching style is similar, but topics tend to be covered rather superficially. In the end, I had exams for 3 out of 5 courses, and they weren’t too difficult. The campus is huge but very beautiful.

5. Every day life in the host country

Public transportation in Dublin consists almost entirely of buses. The city itself is relatively safe but has a large homeless population. There are plenty of options, as it’s easy to get out of the city and go hiking. Ireland is also an ideal base for exploring the rest of the country. There’s always something going on, and the people are extremely friendly.

6. Testimonial

It was a great experience and I would recommend especially in the beginning to go to all events UCD organises because there you can meet a lot of people. In addition I am really happy that I could do my exchange in Dubin as also my english has improved a lot.
