1. Preparation

Try to get into Aparto next to Bocconi which is its student housing - it's by far the best option and pretty cheap. Look for accommodation as soon as possible before your exchange.

2. Accommodation

I did not get a place in Bocconi's student housing, so I booked an apartment through Airbnb instead. It was a bit more expensive, but the neighborhood (near Navigli) was relatively safe and it took me about 20 minutes by bus to get to the university.

3. Academic life at host university

The campus facilities at Bocconi are very well equipped. In almost every classroom, nearly every seat has access to power outlets for laptops and other electronic devices. The academic culture is highly performance-driven, with both students and professors being exceptionally motivated. The teaching style is definitely more interactive than what I was used to at WU. There are more guest lectures, a stronger emphasis on class participation, and a greater number of group projects. In terms of course recommendations, I mainly took Finance and Management courses. The Finance courses are particularly engaging and of very high quality, but they are also quite demanding. I would strongly recommend having a solid foundation in finance before enrolling, as otherwise these courses can require a significant amount of additional effort to keep up with the material.

5. Every day life in the host country

Public transportation in Milan is generally excellent, especially the metro system, which is efficient and well connected. Regarding safety, I would recommend being somewhat cautious at night and avoiding walking alone in certain areas (like centrale) whenever possible. Bocconi also offers a vibrant social and leisure environment. There are numerous student clubs and organizations, as well as a wide range of ESN events throughout the semester. For anyone looking to meet new people and build a social network, there are plenty of opportunities to do so. In addition, the university regularly hosts events and activities that help students stay engaged both academically and socially. Moreover, when it comes to sports and fitness, Bocconi also has an excellent gym with modern facilities, making it easy for students to stay active during their time abroad.

6. Testimonial

My semester abroad was undoubtedly one of the best academic decisions I have ever made. It gave me the opportunity to step well outside of my comfort zone and challenge myself with highly engaging coursework. At the same time, it allowed me to meet people from all over the world, build meaningful friendships, and experience a completely different everyday life. Overall, it was an incredibly rewarding experience that broadened my horizons and left a lasting impact.
