1. Preparation

Not much. Pick your preferred courses beforehand, even though you will only choose them once you get there and get a list of all the remaining available courses. I traveled to Madrid and then by Train (AVE) to Salamanca which was very comfortable.

2. Accommodation

Accomodation search was fine, I did it through idealista. I lived in a shared flat with other students right in the city centre near plaza mayor. About 15 minutes walk to the faculty of economics and business so not bad, good location and good safety, I never had any problems in Salamanca. Although I would not recommend living right in the centre like I did. The noise was just contant and really disturbing for sleep (Tuesday to Saturday there would constantly be drunk and loud people outside, it got on my nerves after a while). Tips I wish Id known beforehand are exactly that, to not live so central.

3. Academic life at host university

I only had 3 classes and did not spend much time at my faculty. However the academic culture and teaching style were good, nothing bad or particularly good to comment about it. Its as you would imagine it to be more or less. Of course some things depend on the course/ Professor but overall I had a very pleasant experience in that regard. If you want easy courses I recomment "Comportamiento Organizacionál" and "Business English" altough the former was already full so I didnt get in, but I know from friends that it was easy.

5. Every day life in the host country

Public transport is not necessary for most as the city is small enough to be able to walk everywhere. If you need to get somewhere farther there are buses but mostly outside the centre as cars are restricted there. As already mentioned the city feels really safe. Police present in the centre. I would have liked to be able to play football on a team or something which was unfortunately not possible for me as the university team already forms at the beginning of the school year in september and I got there in january. There are regular events in the city centre, including plaza mayor or Convento de San Esteban. Gyms are not very good there in general but have most of the basics. Kronos gym was decent.

6. Testimonial

I loved Salamanca and my Erasmus there (although writing your thesis while on exchange I do not recommend to anyone). Traveling from Salamanca was great (Sevilla, Cáceres, Porto, Bilbao, Madrid etc.), and coming from Vienna, I loved living in a small city where you could walk everywhere and regularly meet people you knew around the city centre. The vibe was immaculate and the people I met there are all really great. Im sure I made some lifelong friendships throughout my exchange:)
