1. Preparation

I flew to Lisbon, easily the most convenient way to get there, quick and no hassle compared to some long overland trip. One thing to watch out for: the housing market is rough. Demand is high and prices show it, especially anywhere central, so start looking early and stay flexible on location or you'll be scrambling last minute. Other than that it was honestly a great semester, tons of fun and I learned a lot too, both in and out of class.

2. Accommodation

I stayed at a student residence nearby the university. In retrospect I would recommand to get a flat in the city. It can be cool and convenient to be close to the university and therefore the beach. During exam season it comes in very handy. Additionally, ubers/bolts into the city are comparably cheap (13€ for half an hour drive) (Train is also possible and even free). however, in retrospect I imagine that being in the city also has its perks. But the building quality in the city is horrible!

3. Academic life at host university

The course difficulty is comparable to WU.The teaching style is also quite similar. Be careful , when choosing partners for gorup projects. Some students sometimes have different standards. Overall, it is important to stay on top of assignements. Additionally, i recommand to do a few of the courses that only last for half a semester. This way the exam week at the end does not become too stressful.

5. Every day life in the host country

Public transport is worse than in Austria, trains are older and often run late. Furthermore train stations are often confusing, because of a lack of sign. I felt safe at all times during my stay. When it comes to social events there is erasmus live lisboa (a group that organises events for erasmus students). I can recommand to do a few of their events especially at the beginning, to get to know people. When it comes to sport i would recommand trying surfing. There is a gym at the university that is suffiicient.

6. Testimonial

It was a great experience overall. For the beginning it is important to go to all of the events to get to know people. One of the best events at the beginning was a pub crawl through bairo alto (city district with all of the bars).I traveled a lot troughout all of portugal. I can recommand visiting porto at least once, as ist is a beatiful city (even more so than lisboa in my opinion).
