1. Preparation

I flew out via London and Dallas with American Airlines. I booked my flights at the end of June - right when they got expensive… would definitely recommend booking early, as I could have saved around 200 bucks!

2. Accommodation

Mostly used Tulane‘s own housing platform which basically acts like Willhaben. Students going abroad advertise their rooms (often for half the price as they normally pay extraordinary amounts…). We lived in a cozy house around 5 min from the business school. I shared the house with the other Master‘s student and two Americans which was quite fun!

3. Academic life at host university

The campus facilities are amazing! Free gym, free tennis courts, free swimming pools, etc. The food at the university‘s dining hall was also great, but unfortunately not for free :) Academically, the courses are quite different compared to WU. Attendance is mandatory and you are expected to not only have read the papers before class, but also participate and be able to answer the professor’s questions. However, this sounds more demanding than it actually is! Overall, courses are very interesting although not too demanding academically! I can definitely recommend taking the following courses: - FINE 7110 Investments - MGMT 7100 Corporate Strategy

5. Every day life in the host country

Public transport is generally bad compared to European cities. Besides the famous trolley, I would not recommend using the public transit system as it often is a gamble. Safety is definitely an issue in New Orleans, however not really in the Tulane area as it is situated in a rather safe and beautiful area of the city. New Orleans is a vibrant and super friendly city, but some parts are quite dangerous and especially in the party street (bourbon street), locals will advise you to not walk into dark alleys due to people getting robbed there frequently. Tulane's campus offers a variety of sports - from tennis and football (soccer) to swimming and a well-equipped gym. If you're into golfing, you'll also find a golf club situated in the beautiful Audubon park right next to the university.

6. Testimonial

Studying at Tulane in New Orleans was special because of the people — students from all over the world who brought completely different perspectives and made every day feel like an adventure. The city itself was a culture shock in the best way: the music, the food, the history, nothing like I had experienced before. And being in the US made it so easy to travel, so I made the most of it and saw as much as I could.
